Eichel is an allstar because of the rule that every team must be represented. Couturier, Pastrnak, Stone, Huberdeau, Vorachek, Kessel and Lee all have better numbers. That's a fact. But they're not going, because of the NHL's merit system.

Jack is 33 in league scoring and 26 spots ahead of Matthews. Jack and Auston are scoring at a virtually identical pace. So, it looks like Matthews as well was only selected to the All Star game because Toronto needed to be represented.

Fella. Where did I say Auston Matthews was an allstar? Where? Personally, using the current criteria, he is not. He missed too many games. He doesn't have the points to back it up. Maybe if Babcock had him on every PP and empty net situation he would, but he doesn't. Andersen should be the Maple Leafs representative, but cannot with Price in the division.

Jack is an ALLSTAR, I saw the rosters announced yesterday (LOL).. Why spend your countless words trying to defend why you think he is not? At the end of the day, Jack Eichel will be playing in the allstar game like it or not. Also, what is Garth suppose to say, you do realize that he is a Sabres Blogger and is suppose to say good things about our players....

I don't go out to attack Matthews, I do believe he's awesome. It's just getting old hearing from the same Leaf fans saying Eichel is garbage and Matthews is God's gift to hockey when they're the same player.

Eichel doesn't play with Zack Hyman!

Matthews plays every even strength shift with Zack Hyman. If they put Marleau or someone with talent on his line he would have far more points.

Leaf fans believe Eichel is top talent. However his numbers (goals, wins, losses, plus minus, Calder) all pale in comparison to Auston Matthews. Matthews scored40 goals as a rookie. Won Calder Playing 2nd line minutes and with Zack Hyman. The Leafs continue to insulate him. He has veteran peers who can play. In a year or two it will become his team.
The Sabres on the other hand have hung Eichel out to dry. The pressure to win is all in him. Despite tanking for the last four years, they still do not have enough NHL talent around him. The culture of losing still is a rotten stench around the franchise. It really is s shame as Sabre fans deserve better.
All I am saying is Garth is delusional. The Sabres franchise is a disaster. They are in last place in the eastern conference. They do have some good players coming but not enough of them. Soon they will be trading their best player three years after they traded a ton to get him.

Personally I'm surprised this is Eichel's 1st ASG selection. I would have thought he had been there before.
